Could this make space travel easier?

scientists keep telling how we need tons of thrust to take a ship out of the earths gravity, but what if you made a space ship that looks exactly like a ballistic missile. It has no wings except the wings on the end near the thrusters and those wings are slightly bent to make the ship spin in flight sort of like when a bullet is fired, it spins in flight. Now, my point is, if we make our space ships use a drill technique then we wont need quite as much thrust as we use now to leave Earth's atmosphere, our ships would spin to drill through the atmosphere and into space. Does this make sense and is this plausible?
