Teachers: How to motivate 8 yr old ESL student?

I have been working w/ ESL students for 2 1/2 years/ in reading. This is a first time situation & would appreciate suggestions. Student is 8 yr. old 3rd grader. Pre Primer to Primer Briggance scores (from Mexico/in US for approx. 2 yrs). So far - this is typical of lots of my students...thing that is different is complete lack of motivation. In part this is due to lack of emphasis on importance of school from home (her education in Spanish/Mexico was treated w/ indifference too). No learning disabilities & potential is good. Ideas to motivate this little one to care about doing well. She does not have behavior issues - just lack of focus and care - responses to her own successes or challenges are the same....no sparkle....Ideas, please? (Already do sticker charts and that kind of thing...also do special WOW! note/certificates for a great week, etc.)

Why Doesn't The Battery to My Camcorder Charge?

If your battery is 8 - 10 years old, the battery is most likely the problem. They only last so long and at some point they will not take a charge any more. I've never heard of a rechargable battery lasting that many years. You definitely got your money's worth out of it. Check on the internet and I'm sure you can find places that sell them at a decent price. It's interesting that that Panasonic battery works with the JVC camcorder. One good tip...whenever you recharge batteries, DO NOT leave them in the charger more than the instructions tell you to (always less than 24 hours), You will fry the battery.

How do I take care of the st. augustine sod I had laid down today?

My back yard was a disaster. I thought I wasn't watering my lawn enough because I started seeing dead patches in my st. augustine lawn. Next thing you know, the entire lawn was dead....so I resodded the entire yard. 3 months later that lawn was dead from what I thought was underwatering...then a neighbor showed me that I had chinch bugs. He said that if I would have treated for the chinch bugs I would have saved the lawn. Well, I treated the yard with Ortho lawn insect control granuals that say they work for 3 months. That worked into the ground for about 3 weeks. Today I had the dead lawn removed and new sod put down. Of course it looks great but it looked great last time. What do I do to make it work this time? I'm in Jacksonville Florida. It was still 80 degrees today. I watered the sod heavily today and plan to water in everyday for about 10 days to help it catch. What do I do to make sure the chinch bugs don't come back? Should I put granuals down again? Do I fertilize? What do I do? I keep getting different opinions and I'm just scared that I'm going to lose this lawn. At $800 bucks a pop it's very expensive. One other issue that I have is that there were weeds in the yard. Most were removed before the sod was put down...but I know some were just covered with the st. augustine by the workers that laid the sod. Any good advice will be very welcome. Thanks!!!!!!!

Husband won't give a divorce?

I am married for 9 years and have a 4 year old baby. About 5 months my husband cheated on me for the first time and he was the perfect husband and father. I just want devote my life to give a better environment to my child and support her in every way possible. So the other day I called him and asked for a divorce. He said he will think about it and how he is not marrying this woman and lets wait and see where the future takes us. I am not worried about any financial problems and I don't his child support or alimony because I am capable of taking care of us and I told him that I don't need his money to raise my child. I feel he is sending me mix signals and says he does not want to be with me but won't divorce me either. I know people are ask why don't I file for a divorce because I really don't care as I am not dating someone else and have no desire of doing such things as of now. We are just binded through the law but sometimes I feel I have no love left for him. If we ever do get back together it will be just for our child because he sometimes cries on the phone for her. Also, he was never abusive towards me and always took care of us well. I did slap him once I found out he was cheating. For the past year or so he was also having alot of problems with his family and his mother would call and say she is going to kill herself or commit suicide because he is her only child and his mom has always been the drama queens and also emotionally black mails his father. Life is starting to get complicated. Really complicated. I am currently in a relationship, though I'm mostly like going to dump her because we have became more like friends. How can anyone get DNA results not showing some African DNA if we all came out of Africa?

How is it possible for some Europeans to have an ancestry DNA test done and not show some amount of African DNA if we all came out of Africa? Even the Chinese have discovered recently, to their surprise, that their ancestry is linked to Africa. What is going on here? In order to completely breed out the African DNA, you would need some DNA that was uniquely different from African DNA...Wouldn't you? That would seem to imply that when African Humans migrated into Europe and mixed with Neanderthal, the Neanderthals did not go extinct, but are rather alive and well. Can someone explain this? In order for the African DNA to be completely eradicated from the European DNA, there would have to be some other type of DNA other than African for that to happen. I think I may have a chronic digestive problem or something of that sorts.?

I am 18 and male, I am almost exactly 6' tall and weigh 125-130. I have always been and looked really really skinny. I can't eat in the morning or I'll get sick. I really don't get an appetite till around 4 P.M. and it will grow from there. I can eat the most around midnight. I have acid reflux like problems (lots of gas, i can burp and fart all day long and it won't feel better) and antacids seem to barely help. I have been to doctors and they just keep throwing antacids my way. I am pretty anxious and will shake a lot and I believe there is a correlation between me shaking and my digestive process. After a big meal, my leg will shake almost uncontrollably. I get nauseous fairly often. It has gotten worse recently with increase gas, stomach pains, and irregular bowl movements.I also recently threw up undigested food from which was in my stomach a good amount of time before I threw up. My mother thinks its hypoglycemia, but it is my impression most hypoglycemics are also diabetics. I have been told about celiac disorder which seems possible. Any suggestions???

Stepson hurt her bad...HELP PLEASE?

One year old stray heartworm positive?

Is it normal for a dog so young to get Heartworm..He is my foster dog (who was pulled from pound last week), and after the vet visit found he was HW positive. Is this something maybe ped from his mom? We (all those that rescued him) feel awful that this poor guy has this and will have a long battle with the treatment..We dont know the severity yet, but found it odd for a dog to test positive so young...Thanks for any info..Also he is part collie and I heard they are sensitve to HW treatment. Engine misfire... what could be wrong with my 2004 ford escape?

so i noticed when i was driving my engine started to misfire... i hadn't driven my car in a while and it is really cold here where i live. when i was picking my son up from school i was stopped but not in park... that's when it started chugging as i call it. the next day i had a friend come check it out and he said it drove smooth. it was not going into gear when i drove it. now it's driving fine, but when i have it in park and hit the gas the engine starts to do the "chugging" misfire thing again. I have no clue what could be wrong. i am planning on getting a diagnostics test ran, just wandering what i could be looking at here. my transmission fluid is fine, mind you! what an awful time to have car problems!

A guy contacted me online wanting to trade me his 97 Chevy Blazer for my decently modded 91 Mitsubishi Eclipse. He sent me a few pics of his Blazer and it looked like a decent car. Will Synthetic Field Boots get ruined by the snow?

They shouldn't. I have the same brand and I've gotten them wet many times. They are very waterproof and hold up well. I make sure to dry them off though because I show in them and I don't want any mold or weak spots. I'm pretty sure that they are made to be very waterproof. They are made to be washable, so I would imagine they can handle a little snow. I've always wondered what they mean by washable, but I've never stuck mine in the washing machine to find out.

Within this past summer I've putt on some weight. Enough that it bothers me and I want to tone myself back up again. But my boyfriend says that I look great and he doesn't matter how big I get that he will still love me. But in the middle of all this of me trying to get back into shape he seems to be one of my negative side effects because of the food around. If I don't see it, I won't eat it and so here I am trying to lose weight but he is getting a bit bigger as well with a little pot belly. Although I like his little pot belly I also know it's not healthy. Is there any way for me to help him lose weight with me without him really realizing that he is. Cause with his recent weight gain he isn't as ually active or in the mood with me as much even though he don't realize it. Any ideas to help him lose weight with out him realizing it? Could this be a stomach virus or something else?

About an 1-2 hours after I eat I start feeling really sick and queasy in my stomach. And it almost feels like there is hot air in my throat.... hard to explain... like boiling heat coming from my esophagus. Could this be a stomach virus or an acid reflux problem? I live on the coast with low temps and high humidity. was considering venting the dryer through the dehumifier to conserve warm air in the house minus the moisture. I don't like it when they switch off every chapter to another person. But in my novel, I'm writing maybe one or two critical chapters from the secondary characters point of view. It really gives the reader insight as to how the character feels, not just how the main character sees them.

Scientists have confirmed that in the adolescent brain the area which makes us "aware" of the future consequences of our actions isn't completely developed yet in teens. So what I'm saying is right now this young man seems to be all you can think about. Using your words you seemed to be obsessed with him. But trust me honey he's not the only boy in the world. And frankly you are too young to be serious about any boys. Heed my words me being a man myself dear 17 year old boys know nothing of love. Infatuation maybe, lust definately, but real love like devotion, fidelity, commitment and sacrifice teenage boys just aren't ready for that honey, their hormones won't let 'em... trust me. All you need to do is stay away from him. It may hurt at first to stay away from him but eventually your heart will heal and you'll find yourself smiling again. I suggest you think about what you want for yourself and your future. Focus on that instead of focusing on him. You have your whole life ahead of you. Don't let some future homeless burned out good for nothing junkie intefere with the good life I'm sure you want for yourself. The good life that you absolutely deserve. How do I get my year old terrier mix to STOP going potty in the house??

OK...I'm not nuts or anything. Just give me some opinions. I have 2 indoor dogs; 4 year old terrier mix (male neutered) he is housebroke...and the culprit 1 year old terrier mix (female spayed). I just don't get this dog!! We go out a lot as I work and live on a horse farm. She will poop and/or pee outside and run around for long periods of time...come in the house and pee or poop!!! They both eat good quality dog food and eat early, about 5 a.m. Overnight...poops in the house! Almost every morning I get up and clean up. I'm thinking I should kennel them both overnight and maybe this will lick the p.m. problem. But what about the other times throughout the day? HELP

When I started my job close to a year ago, I started as a Personnel istant for a staffing company. My main job duties were to answer phone, make start packets for new hires, and keep up with the start to finish of these new hires. Background checks, drug screening results etc. Pretty easy. As time went on I became more familiar with Payroll, I helped out here and there and now I basically handle all aspects of Payroll and my original job duties. Since we handle all of our new hires nationally, everything we do is sent out through fed-ex packets. So when we have a rush of 30 new hires beginning in a week, its a lot for me to keep up with. Did they return all their paperwork? Did they take their drug test? Did I send over their client paperwork to their new manager? While that’s going on, recruiters are telling me, HEY, I need 5 packets to go out overnight to these people who need to start next Monday. The phone is ringing. I still have to do Payroll for the 200 people who are currently working for us. The original Payroll Admin is sending out joke emails and videos with all the extra time on her hands since this is such “a learning experience for me”, “im doing such a great job in Payroll”. I love Payroll and I love my other job duties, it is just overwhelming. A recruiter got a promotion to lead recruiter and she is on a Power trip, only a couple of people here know how much work I do , but she tells me I need to do a project for a recruiter because it will take too much time out of his recruiting time. Im speechless because im busy enough as it is. She basically tells me in other words, “tough sh*t, its your project now. She even tells me our manager suggested it was a good idea. This recruiter doesn’t like to do new projects, he doesn’t really follow policy, he is holding on to his job by his past experience as an airplane mechanic which is what we recruit for. Im stuck as far as what to do.. What is unfair is, the so called reason I have to do this is because it is too time consuming for him to do, but all the other recruiter have to do it. It will take time out of his recruiting but is it not okay for time to be taken out of their recruiting? Why is this project being handed over to me? I do not want to do something that 1. I don’t have time for 2. Is not an admin’s responsibility 3. Is not fair to other recruiters that I do his work and everyone does their own. Do I confront my manager? What should I do? Should I tell my boss im bipolar?

Firstly, I work at a isted living home for the elderly and was hired as a dietary aide, then shortly after my probation period was over (3 months) I was promoted and offered the position of a dietary weekend cook. Now it has been noticed by all the residents and all the staff, but I am becoming really paranoid and procrastinating more and more. I seem to stress alot and am getting bad memory. Now I am dealing with the elderly and I was doing good at first, there are a couple residents there with ADHD/ADD and one with Bipolar. Also another one has a Ph.D. in Psychology and was a licensed therapist for the state of Oklahoma for her whole life ( she told me I could use her as a reference anytime, but I declined because of my paranoia). I dont know if I should talk to them or not. Though they are noticing something is wrong with me and I feel like I need to either get fired or quit because I know I need help. I also work for a corporation named, Cathedral Rock Corporation. Took much stuff goes on to explain if you can please look that Corporation up.

Well i am at the age of 15 going on 16 and i have taken a very strong interest in acting, as in being on the big screens or on a television show, i have done plays when i was in elementary school to junior high school so i have somewhat a experience with a crowded audience and acting in general. I currently live in New York, but i have not done any acting in my high school yet, this year i am going to try to see if i can be in a drama club. But i have done a project in cl that had involved acting out and my clmates told me i did an ace job at my role. From a guys standpoint there is NOTHING more attractive than a girl who likes to just take control of the situation.
